SATURDAY 20th FEB 2010 - ZAMARETTO DIVISION 1 MIDLAND
MARLOW 0 - WOODFORD UNITED 1

Tom Fountain's late strike seals another victory on the road for Woodford.

Woodford's impressive away form continued at Marlow on Saturday, with a hard fought victory at Marlow.
The visitors took the early initiative and could have been in front after 10minutes when Forinton reacted quickly to a misplaced Watkins clearance and the experienced striker was unlucky to see his 40 yard lob rebound of the post with the keeper stranded. Woodford continued to press and looked to have a clear shout for a penalty, when Hawkins was tripped, the referee adjudged it to be outside the box and the free kick was fired wide by Kinch. Marlow gradually made some inroads and the post this time come to Woodford's assistance, when Jermaine Roache foundhimself in space at the far post.

The second half was a similar affair with both sides defending well, keeping opportunities to a minimum. that was until injury time, when Ricky Johnson put Leigh Mason under pressure in the corner and forced his way into the area, before laying the ball back to Fountain, who met it superbly from 16 yards and fired into the top corner and give Woodford the points

TUE 2nd FEB ZAMARETTO SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIV 1 MIDLAND
STOURPORT SWIFTS  3   - WOODFORD UNITED  4

Woodford came out on top yet again in a nail biting encounter at Stourport to send them into the top six,

Stourport had the better of the early exchanges and went in front when Dan Polan broke down the Woodford left, before firing past Finlay at his near post to give the home side the lead, Woodford should have been on level terms before the break, with King and Foriton both going close.

The second half had hardly got under way and the home side were two up, Ross Harris hesitated with his clearance and Chris Cornes was quick to pounce firing past Finlay from 6 yards. Woodford responded immediately when Glenn Hawkins curled a delightful effort past the stranded Paul Evans.

Woodford were now completely on top and only the woodwork and some superb saves by Evans kept Stourport in front. Again the game was turned on it's head when Stouport somehow regained thier two goal advantage, when Dan Polan closed down a Finlay clearance and the ball rebounded off the strikers legs back into the Woodford net.

Woodford again showed the spirit to come back and were rewarded for there endeavors when Forinton was bundled over in the box by Nathan Jukes, the defender was given his marching orders and Hawkins dispatched the spot kick to give Woodford hope.

Hawkins leveled the game with ten minutes left, when he found himself with space in the box from a Travers cross, the striker made no mistake to give him his hat-trick Woodford went in search of the winner and again it has Hawkins who took his tally to four, again Stourport failed to pick him up in the box and the big striker made no mistake to give Woodford the points.

WOODFORD UTD  3  AFC SUDBURY  2

Woodford avenged the early season FA Cup defeat at the hands of Sudbury, with a hard fought victory at Byfield Road.

The visitors certainly started the brighter, with the lion share of possession the only real surprise is that it took 25 minutes for them to take the lead, after Gareth Heath forced his way into the Woodford penalty area, before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the far corner. Sudbury continued to have the upper hand and only a last ditch tackle by Chris Jackson on Kevin Hawes kept Woodford in the game.... read more..

SAT 28th NOVEMBER - ZAMARETTO SOUTHERN LEAGUE - DIVISION 1 MIDLAND

SOHAM TOWN  4  WOODFORD UTD  4

A superb Glenn Hawkins hat trick gave Woodford a share of the spoils at Soham Town on Saturday.

With only 25 minutes on the clock Woodford looked dead and buried as poor defensive errors allowed

Soham to take total control, firstly on 12 minutes Ross Harris was caught in possession which allowed

Johnson to break clear and as he fired across the six yar box, Luke Carnell was unfortunate to deflect the ball into his own net. Dubi Ogbonna immediately doubled the advantage, again hesitancy by Parkinson allowed the home striker in on goal, Goode in the Woodford goal did well to block the effort but could do nothing about the follow up as Ogbonna tapped home.

Woodford were certainly not on there game, and 2 goals in the next 10 minutes by the lively Deakin Napier looked to have ended the encounter, even though the game was only 25 minutes old. Woodford made an immediate change, Simon King replacing Nathaniel Liburd looking to stop the threat of Napier down the left.

The change had an immediate effect as King set Gordon away, who crossed to Hawkins to slot home to give Woodford a slight glimmer of hope.4-1 down at the interval, Woodford certainly needed an improved performance after the break if they was to have any chance of getting back into the game, Although the home side helped the cause by convincing everyone that it was possible to come from 4 goals down to gain a point, as they had done that the previous week at Leighton Town

If the first half could be classed a Woodford's worst performance for some time, the the second was a complete turnaround, When Hawkins rose superbly to head home a Nicky Gordon cross 15 minutes in it looked possible, 5 minutes later though the task was made harder when Simon King was dismissed for his second Yellow card after a melee had broken out in the Soham technical area, the unfortunate King looked to have received a kick from one of the Soham staff has he tried to retrieve the ball.

Down to ten men a 2 goals behind, Woodford somehow took control and with 15 minutes left on the clock, Hawkins added a 3rd when he turned his defender and fired home. Soham were now struggling to combat the Endeavour of Woodford and never looked like making the extra man advantage count, as they gave the ball away at every opportunity. Then with 2 minutes left Lewis Travers forced his way into the box and fired past the advancing home keeper to level the scores. Woodford maybe should have won it when Fountain rose well in the box, but somehow headed over from a Kinch corner.

Unbeaten in their last 3 games Woodford will be looking to improve their defending as they take on Atherstone at Byfield Road next Saturday..5th December
