Report: A hesitant start by both teams. Play ebbed and flowed in both halves with few chances being created at either end. Finally, after 10 minutes, a Heyford attack found a gap in the Woodford defence and they took advantage with a well taken goal. Woodford soon responded when Alexander displayed great ball control, passed across the Heyford area to Zac, who took the ball wide and shot well to beat their goal keeper. Just before half time Heyford won a free kick and tried a long shot which just went over the bar. Woodford kicked off the second half and quickly won a corner. Unfortunately Heyford were able to break from this and after a good forward run finished with a confident shot which beat the Woodford keeper. Mid way through the half Woodford were awarded a penalty but William was unfortunate not to score. However he soon responded with a great attacking run, passing the ball through to Zac who shot on target to score a second goal. Callum steadied Woodford’s defence during the second half and it was unlucky for Woodford that Heyford secured the win with a lobbed long range shot that nobody stood a chance of reaching. It finished 2-3.

On a wonderful spring morning in Northampton, Woodford met Wootton St George for the 3rd time this season. The match was well balanced to begin with. Zac & Trystan needed to be robust in defence and Callum was very solid in goal. At the other end James took a free kick which only just went over and soon after another shot went just wide. Alexander and William also worked hard to create chances and frustrate the efforts of the Wootton side. Towards the end of the half, Woodford won another free kick. However, Wootton counter attacked and were frustrated again by an excellent Woodford defence. Then, following a moment of confusion, Owen was able to run free at the Wootton goal. Owen kept good control of the ball and slotted it neatly past the keeper. 1-0 at half time. Woodford started the 2nd half with a couple of good attacks. Trystan was dribbling the ball well past the Wootton team and after one missed chance he tried a shot straight at goal from distance. It was sufficiently powerful to trouble the Wootton goalkeeper and ended up in the net. One minute later, following another good attack from Woodford, Trystan passed to Zac at the edge of the goal mouth and Zac confidently scored the 3rd goal. James did well in goal and William, Callum, Alexander & Owen all contributed to a great performance. Wootton ended the match with a couple of corners and in a resulting goal mouth scramble they scored a deserved consolation goal.

Welland Valley kicked off and immediately put pressure on the Woodford defence. However, a big goal kick from William enabled Zac to break quickly towards the Welland goal and score Woodford’s first after just 2 minutes. Welland resumed their attack and won 3 corners in succession. Despite the pressure the whole Woodford team defended very well and always managed to thwart Welland’s efforts. William was solid in goal & Alexander and James robust in defence. Trystan managed a few skilful breaks but Woodford struggled to make further chances in the first half. It was a similar story in the 2nd half. Once again an early Woodford break, by Zac & Alexander, resulted in a goal. Zac maintained good control and neatly put the ball past the Welland keeper. Otherwise for Woodford, James, Trystan & William had to work hard in defence. Owen kept a clean sheet in goal with a good save. As the end of the match approached Woodford finally managed to turn the tide and put together a few consecutive attacking moves. Callum was unlucky to have a good attempt saved by the Welland keeper. Welland were a good side and, although it was tough for Woodford, their teamwork in defence was admirable.

In a closely fought 6-a-side match Brixworth applied early pressure and at first Woodford struggled to find any rhythm. Brixworth won 2 early corners and were unlucky when a good shot went just over the Woodford bar. They were soon rewarded with a goal after 5 minutes. Going behind seemed to galvanise Woodford and for the remainder of the match the teams were very close. Alexander was good in goal and James made 2 great runs at the Brixworth defence. The 2nd resulted in a fantastic long range shot that hit the mark. After a foul on Zac & subsequent free kick, Trystan was very close to scoring a second but put the ball just wide. 1-1 at half time. After the re-start Brixworth won a corner and a resultant shot was well saved by Trystan, one of 3 excellent saves that kept Brixworth from adding to their tally. After a tense 5 minutes in the Woodford half, the Reds launched an attack that resulted in the ball reaching Zac on the left side of the Brixworth goal. He took the shot well and scored Woodford’s second. The whole team battled well with Owen & Alexander in defence and William, James, Callum & Zac in midfield / attack. Alexander and Zac both made several attacking runs but were unable to add any further goals. Brixworth always remained very capable of levelling the match and the last 10 minutes was a nervous time for all spectators.

On a damp day at Byfield Road, Woodford Reds faced the Wootton team that beat them 4-2 back in September. Wootton applied the early pressure and won 3 corners in the first few minutes. They were rewarded with their first goal half way through the first half. Woodford then composed themselves and the match became more balanced. Alexander did well in defence and Trystan made some skilful runs forward. After missing one chance on goal James quickly responded with a long range shot that gave the Wootton keeper little chance. 1-1 at half time. After the re-start Woodford’s defence took a few minutes to settle and Wootton took advantage by scoring a second. This once again spurred Woodford on. The defence, with Trystan and Owen became solid and William worked very hard, & successfully, in midfield to create several chances. After 7 minutes Zac made a good run on goal and his shot, from the left hand side, ended up in the net despite the Wootton defence throwing themselves at a clearance. Alexander then nearly scored following a Woodford free kick and soon after Zac passed neatly to Alexander, well positioned just outside the area, to shoot the ball superbly over the Wootton keeper. Good goal. Now 3-2 ahead, Woodford absorbed some late pressure from Wootton whilst William and Zac also came close to extending the lead.

It was a very blustery day at Welland Valley. Despite this, both teams started well and played some good football. Woodford created several chances and were rewarded with 3 corners in quick succession. Callum & Trystan in defence and Alexander in goal did everything necessary to thwart any Welland attacks. After 10 minutes James & William produced some good forward play and ended by passing the ball neatly into the Welland box where Zac was in the perfect position to turn it into the back of the net. Another Woodford shot at goal soon followed but then, in the last few minutes of the half, Welland kept the ball at the Woodford end with several corners & throw-ins. It was hard work but Woodford marked well and absorbed the pressure. Soon after the restart Woodford got their second goal when James shot on target following a great throw-in from Alexander. The remainder of the match was fairly end to end but the Woodford defence remained very solid with Callum at the back & Trystan in goal. The rest of the team, including Owen & Alexander help create several more good chances but none were on target. Near the end, a great corner in from James was turned into the Welland goal by an unfortunate defender giving Woodford the 3-0 result.

A scrappy start for both sides and Hackleton were able to put early pressure on Woodford. It was largely a battle in midfield for the first 10minutes. James had one good shot at the Hackleton goal but then, in the last 5 minutes Hackleton scored their first having intercepted a Woodford goal kick. One minute later a Hackleton player chanced a long range shot which unluckily bounced past the assembled Woodford defence and into the net. Although 2-0 down, Woodford came back resiliently. In the last minute of the first half a robust attack ended with a brilliant goal from William hooked nicely over the Hackleton keeper. In the 2nd half Woodford were in control. The defence, with Owen, William & James was strong & Callum was faultless in goal. Zac & Alexander were able to make several good runs at the Hackleton defenders. After 4 minutes of the half Zac’s 2nd decent shot hit the target and in the following minute Alexander nearly scored during a goal mouth scramble. Another minute later Zac received the ball from a corner and scored his second. Three minutes from time he was able to make another run past the Hackleton defence and reached his hatrick. There was a last minute chance for Hackleton but the Woodford defence was still sharp and dealt with it.

Woodford kicked off and were put under early pressure by a strong Moulton attack. The Woodford defence held out and after 8 minutes Owen shot just wide of the Moulton goal. Two minutes later a goal mouth scramble resulted in the first score going to Moulton. Woodford recovered well and William managed a good shot a few minutes later. As half time approached a foul on Trystan during a Woodford attack resulted in a penalty and James levelled the score with a confident strike. Woodford were the more dominant team in the second half. Within 3 minutes James ran at the Moulton defence and shot from the right to score his second goal. After 10 minutes Woodford pressure resulted in James getting his hatrick following sustained pressure from Woodford. Whilst Trystan performed well in defence, further attacks resulted in several good chances for Woodford. Alexander & Callum kept the pressure on Moulton and Zac had a free kick saved by the Moulton goal keeper. Just before the end of the match a momentary lapse in Woodford’s defence, following a goal kick, allowed Moulton to score their second. Overall it was a strong performance from the Woodford Reds.

Woodford started strongly and put early pressure on the Wooldale goal. Wooldale defended well, absorbing pressure from a Woodford corner and early shots on target by Callum, James and Trystan.  James broke the deadlock after 4 minutes through a well taken shot to the corner of the net from outside the area. Following the restart Woodford again piled on the pressure, Trystan narrowly missing before James found the back of the net after 8 minutes with another superb strike from outside the penalty area. Woodford dominated the midfield throughout the half, with great pressure applied by Trystan, Alexander, and James, which kept the action in Wooldale’s half. Further shots from Trystan and James came close before half time. After the break the game changed and Wooldale came out strongly and put pressure on Woodford for the first time, dominating the early stages before scoring from a brilliantly taken free kick from just inside the Woodford half after 4 minutes. Wooldale continued the pressure but were kept out by solid defence by Callum and great saves from James. Woodford regained momentum in midfield and the game switched from end to end, with several great breaks from William, and also Owen, Alexander and Trystan, but great Wooldale defence prevented goals. Excellent defensive work by Callum at the end denied Wooldale an equaliser.

An exciting start for Woodford. Alexander intercepted the Drayton kick off and went round most of their players on his own to almost score in the first minute. Woodford were well organised and put pressure on the opposition. In defence Zac, and Owen in goal, were solid. With 6 minutes gone Zac used space to shoot from the half way line and the ball ended up in the net. Shortly after Drayton equalised when the goal mouth was left exposed but Woodford continued to put pressure on. William had a great shot deflected to hit the post and soon after found the target to make it 2-1. One minute later William turned the ball into the net from a corner to get his second. At the end of the first half Callum had a good shot saved. Shortly into the 2nd half a defensive lapse allowed Drayton through to score their second goal. However, Woodford regained control and William got his third with a good shot across the goal. Drayton then scored an own goal from a Woodford corner and in the last minute Owen was very close to adding another.

A very tight match for Woodford Reds. The first 10 minutes were end to end with good attacking & defending displayed by both teams. William & Callum worked hard in midfield and Trystan gave another solid display as goalkeeper. Brixworth grabbed a fortunate goal in the tenth minute and Woodford equalised 4 minutes later when James scored following good pressure from a corner. The second half started well for Woodford with a great long range shot from James beating the Brixworth goal keeper within 1 minute of the restart. Brixworth responded with some good attacking play and Woodford defended well for 10 minutes. After James hit the bar halfway through the second period Brixworth found gaps in the Woodford defence to score 2 match winning goals. Woodford created some chances to equalise in the dying minutes and were unfortunate not to make them count.

James was denied by a good save from their keeper in the 8th minute. It was 0-0 at half time. Soon after the restart Woodford broke following a Welford attack and James scored the first goal. Zac then intercepted the ball following the Welford kick off and passed to James who then scored his second goal within 2 minutes. After a more settled period Welford caught Woodford out with a good break to score their only goal. In the last quarter of the match Woodford were the stronger team with all players making a solid contribution. Zac scored from a good pass across the Welford penalty area from Trystan. In the last minute before half time James scored a second for Woodford with a great shot on target. With the match finely balanced at the start of the second half Woodford worked hard to find an equaliser. Alexander & James made some good runs forward but despite a number of chances & great effort from the team, Woodford did not manage to score again. Wootton added one more goal half way through the second half and credit must go to the Reds’ teamwork in defence and, man of the match; Trystan, who displayed some goalkeeping to keep Woodford in the game.

Woodford Blues Kingsthorpe Jets

2

On beautifully warm Spring morning, Woodford travelled to Kingsthorpe, in the hope of avenging their last defeat and extending their unbeaten run from October 2010.

Kingsthorpe kicked off what was always going to be a tough game, on the evidence of the previous encounter.  The pressure was all on the Woodford goal with Skip being forced to make a number of saves and Jonny, Fionntan and Oscar battling to keep the ball out of the Blues penalty area. Alfie and Molly worked hard up front to relieve the Jets pressure, drawing a number of saves from their ‘keeper. Jet’s efforts were rewarded with a goal though on 5 minutes 1-0.

After some substitutions and a little reorganisation, suddenly it was all Blues. Noah, Alfie and Kit all going close to levelling the match. On 14 minutes Kit picked up the ball on the right wing and screamed towards the bi line, Jet’s defence expected a cross, but some great footwork saw him cut into the penalty area and take the ball round two players, before a slide rule pass the Noah, who buried it in the back of the net, a great goal and  1-1 Half time.

The second half saw Jets come out fighting with the ball spending much of the first 10 minutes in the Blues half.  Molly and Fionntan stood up in defence and some excellent saves from Jonny now in goal kept Blues in it. Eventually a loose ball in the Blues half was met with a good strike from the Jet’s forward and a goal. 21 minutes   2 -1.

Woodford lifted their game in response, with some excellent runs from Kit and Alfie and battling midfield play from James and Noah; it was all Blues.  In the dying second Blues were rewarded with a corner, throwing everyone up front including the ‘keeper and the kitchen sink if we’d had one, Blues just ran out of time.  A tough game alas, the long unbeaten run is over but Jets were worthy winners.

Man of the match was a difficult call with some excellent saves from Jonny, a great goal and battling performances all round but with a terrier like performance in defence Fionntan just shaded it

On a warm, windy morning, Woodford kicked off and immediately put the Harriers under pressure with surging runs from Alfie, Skip and Noah. Very quickly the game settled into an end to end affair with chances for both teams and excellent saves from both goalkeepers. On 7 minutes from a long Kit throw in, Noah deftly passed the ball to Skip in space, who took it on into the penalty area and walloped a left foot shot into the back of the net . 1-1.

From the kick off Harriers surged up the pitch with a number of attacks, a harsh free kick was taken superbly by the Harriers no 6, giving Jonny no chance.  HT 1-1

The second half continued as the first with penetrating passing and movement from both teams. Skip now in goal picked out Alfie with a huge goal kick, watching the ball over his shoulder, he controlled it with one touch and on the half volley hit the back of the net. 17 minutes 2 -1. Within two minutes Harriers were level again from well taken corner and a goal mouth scramble.

Harriers stepped up the pressure and despite some magnificent defending from Molly, James and Fionntan, a well taken third left Woodford trailing. 2 -3.  Not beaten and with nothing to lose Oscar, Alfie and Noah time and time again surged forwards giving the Harriers midfield and defence all sorts of trouble. On 24 minutes, a free kick 15 yards out was awarded to Alfie, who stepped up and lifted the ball over the defence and ‘keeper to bring the scores level; 3-3 and game on.

Heads now up, almost immediately Noah picked up a loose ball from a Harriers defender, jinxed past him and slotted it home, 4 -3.

Unfortunately, Harriers had no answer playing the game with only six players; in the dying seconds, Kit picked up the ball in midfield, turned the defence, his shot deflecting off the ‘keeper and in. Final score 5 – 3 to Woodford.  Despite having no substitutes, Harriers battled for 30 minutes and were unlucky not to get more out of a great game.

Player of the Day as always was difficult with Jonny having a great first half in goal and battling performances from Molly, Oscar and Noah; however, with two great goals and a never say die attitude, Alfie deservedly collected the trophy.

On a misty Spring morning Wooldale were looking to avenge their recent 2 0 defeat to Woodford Blue in February.

From the kick off Wooldale put the Blues defence under pressure. Kit, Molly and Oscar stood up well to the Wooldale forwards, supported by Jonny commanding his goal and marshalling the defence at set plays. On the occasional break Alfie and James battled well up front to relieve the pressure.  Half Time 0 - 0

The second half saw Woodford open up the Wooldale defence with some battling midfield and forward play from Molly, Oscar, Skip and Noah. The game became more ‘end to end’ with chances for both teams. Kit and Fionntan were strong in defence setting up the Blues attacks with some great through balls. A throw in led to a fine left foot shot from Skip, which was only kept out by a superb save from the Wooldale ‘keeper.

At the other end Alfie, now in goal kept Woodford’s clean sheet with a number of excellent saves, including a spectacular headed clearance! In the dying seconds a powerful goal-bound Kit free kick from outside the area was met by a brave header from a Wooldale defender and the full time whistle. On another day both teams might have scored two or three but in the end a fair result.

For a change, Player of the Day was an easy decision, Molly had a great game in midfield, not giving an inch to Wooldale, tackling hard and distributing the ball to her team mates; a well deserved reward. Credit must go to a strong team performance in the face of a determined Wooldale team.

On a bright Spring morning shades were order the of the day, as Moulton kicked off and immediately put the Woodford defence under pressure.  For the first 10 minutes, it became a battle of defence with Skip in goal and Kit, Oscar and Molly holding up well against a determined Moulton attack.  On the break Woodford had chances with Alfie and James going close on a number of occasions; but having failed to convert a number of corners, Blues were punished when a Moulton attack was rewarded with a goal on 16 minutes. 0 – 1.

Woodford now rose to the challenge with Noah on the pitch holding the ball up well and setting up Alfie to go close to levelling the match, only to be thwarted by the Moulton ‘keeper. Half time 0 – 1.

In the second half Woodford stepped up the pressure with Kit, Molly and Noah feeding Alfie from midfield. Time and time again Blues went close with excellent shots from Alfie and Noah. At the other end, Oscar, Molly and Fionntan battled in defence and midfield, keeping Moulton at bay.

Eventually Woodford’s pressure was rewarded with a fine goal; Alfie stole the ball off the Moulton right back, jinxed round a defender and shot the ball into the left hand side of the goal, giving the keeper no chance, 33 minutes 1 – 1.

It was now all Woodford, with their tails up, some excellent defensive work from Fiontann and Molly, freed up Kit on the half way line; bombing down the right wing, with screams from the fans to cross, (as usual he ignored) cut inside and hammered the ball at the near post, nearly knocking the ‘keeper into the net with the ball. 35 minutes 2 -1.

Moulton didn’t given up and in the last couple of minutes peppered the Woodford goal, a last minute free kick to Moulton had to be retaken twice, eventually drawing a stunning save from Skip.  Final Score 2 – 1 Woodford. A close shave but still unbeaten in 2011.

Player of the Day was a close call as always, with some great defending, a stunning last gasp save from Skip and great forward play from Noah, James and Alfie but with a great individual performance and a goal worthy of a match winner, Kit just got it.

2

On a crisp March morning, the game started frenetically, with two strong teams looking to take an early lead.  Alfie and Noah broke from the midfield on a number of occasions, only to be thwarted by excellent saves from the Cobra’s keeper.

On 5 minutes, Alfie broke into the box, rounded a couple of defenders and with a cool head slotted the ball past a diving keeper. 1 – 0.

Cobra’s responded well and started to ramp up the pressure on Blues, forcing Skip into a number of good saves. On 8 minutes they were rewarded with an equaliser. The game continued to surge from end to end, with Alfie, Molly and Noah continuing to threaten the Cobra’s goal . Right on half time Cobras broke free only to be thwarted by Skip smothering the ball at the forward’s feet, taking an injury in the process. HT 1-1

The second half continued as the first with chances at both ends. Great runs from James and Oscar resulted in some great saves from the Cobra’s keeper. Following a break from Oscar and fine save, the resultant corner from the right side was whipped in viciously by Kit at the near post; taking a deflection off the keeper and straight in. 22 minutes 2-1.

Cobras responded again drawing some great defending from Molly, Skip, Kit and Fionntan and brave saves from Jonny, now in goal.  A break from Blues, resulted in yet another corner. As if a repeat of the second goal, Kit whipped in the ball again, taking a deflection at the near post from a defender and in. 27 minutes 3-1.

Cobras where not finished though putting the Blues defence under immense pressure, they were rewarded with a second goal and were incredibly unlucky not to equalise in the dying seconds.  Woodford played with big hearts against a strong Cobras team and held on at the death to win 3-2; extending their unbeaten record in the league.

Player of the Day as always was a difficult decision with Alfie having a great first half and Kit and Fionntan defending like lions. However, with a brave goalkeeping performance in the first half and some excellent defending in the second, Skip just shaved it!

Report: There was always a chance this return fixture was going to be a goal fest, with Woodford winning the first tie 5 3.

Woodford came flying out of the blocks, on two minutes a through ball from Kit found Alfie in space, to slot the ball past the Grange Park ‘keeper. 1 0

Two minutes later Alfie met a rebound from a free kick giving the ‘keeper no chance. 2 0.  A minute later, GPR were back in the game with a well taken goal. Pause for breath….

A frenetic first half was not over with Alfie grabbing his hatrick in 8 minutes; a quick throw from Kit over the GPR defenders allowed Alfie to turn and shoot, hitting the top right corner of the net. Grange Park continued to press forwards testing Oscar, Kit and Molly time and time again. Noah and Alfie went close to extending the lead but the first half finished 3 1.

Noah passed the second half kick off to Kit who dribbled the ball through the entire GPR team, to beat the goalkeeper low and to the right, timed at 8 seconds! A great start. 4 1. The game clearly was not over though, Grange Park continued to surge forwards testing Alfie (now in goal) and defenders Kit and Fionntan time and time again.  On 23 minutes their pressure was rewarded with a goal. 4 2.

Woodford were not finished and a battle in midfield for the ball was won by Molly and Oscar, Jonny picked up the ball in the GPR penalty area shooting low and to the right. 22 minutes 5 3.

Grange Park never gave up and were rewarded with a well worked goal, splitting the Woodford defence. 5 - 4 with 5 nervous, heart in the mouth minutes to go. Woodford continued to battle with the defence holding firm as GPR mounted an assault on the Woodford goal. Final score 5 4 and Woodford extend their unbeaten run in 2011.

Player of the Day was yet another difficult decision with an excellent 8 minute hatrick for Alfie, a solid performance from Fionnatan but with a superb battling performance and a great individual goal, Kit just shaded it.

Wooldale Blue

Woodford’s third consecutive away game saw them take on Wooldale Blue, a team who had already pushed Woodford Red close earlier in the season.

Facing a howling gale and the cobwebs blown away, the first half was always going to be a battle in defence for Woodford. Wooldale pinned Woodford in their own half for nearly 15 minutes with only the occasional break forwards by Alfie and Jonny relieving the pressure.  Skip made a number of excellent saves and with Oscar, Fionntan, Molly and Noah defending with great heart, Woodford made it to half time without conceding a goal.

The second half was a more open affair with Woodford having the benefit of the wind. An end to end half, saw surging runs from Kit, Alfie and Noah, test the Wooldale defence. On 25 minutes, a great run from Alfie, down the right flank was finished with an excellent shot, taking a deflection off the defenders head, the goalkeeper stood no chance as the ball hit the back of the net. 1-0.

Woodford continued to apply pressure but were forced to defend a number of counter attacks. With five minutes to go a goalmouth scramble led to a close range shot from Wooldale and to applause from both sets of parents, only a Gordon Banks style save from Jonny kept the ball out. With sterling defending from Kit, Fionntan, Oscar and Molly, it looked like it was going to be Woodford’s day.

Two minutes later after breaking down another Wooldale attack, Kit picked up the ball in his own penalty area, burst across the pitch and down the right flank, a cross towards the penalty area was not dealt with by Wooldale and ended up with the goalkeeper fumbling the ball, quick as flash Skip pounced on the loose ball, pushing it through the ‘keepers legs and over the line. 2-0 final score.

Some superb defending and counter attacking football, meant Woodford kept yet another clean sheet. No goals conceded in 2011, a record not even Manchester United can boast.

Fans Player of the Day (MOM) was yet another difficult decision, with a superb battling performance all round.  The champagne moment of the game and maybe the season; Jonny’s save decided it. Well done Jonny ‘Banksie’ Fletcher.

For the second weekend in a row Woodford were away from home at Long Buckby Juniors, looking to extend their unbeaten run to six on the trot.

Long Buckby kicked off but were immediately put under pressure by the Woodford forwards, Alfie, Noah and Molly, supported by Kit and Oscar bombing down the wings, using the width of the pitch and creating some great space, a goal was inevitable. On two minutes, Kit picked up the ball in his own half , screamed through the Buckby midfield and defence to plant the ball high and to the left of the keeper, giving him no chance; a dream start 1 – 0.

Blues continued to pile the pressure on, pinning Buckby in their own half. On the break Long Buckby remained dangerous, creating a couple of great chances, only to be thwarted by some excellent last ditch defending and saves from Skip. The second Blues goal came from an excellent clearance from Skip and a wonderful cross from Alfie, setting Noah up for number two with a great finish. 2-0, 8 minutes.

In the last minute of the first half, Alfie, created a goal out for nothing with a superb turn, surging run and shot, all the goalkeeper could do was pick the ball out of the back of the net. 3 -0. Half-time. The second half saw Long Buckby putting Blues under more pressure, a couple of excellent saves from Johnny, now in goal and excellent tackling from Molly, Kit and Oscar in defence kept the score at 3 – 0. 14 minutes.

Woodford continued to challenge on the break with Alfie, Molly and Skip giving the Long Buckby defence all sorts of trouble. In the dying moments of the game, a stunning through ball from Alfie, set up Skip for a wonderful left footed shot from outside the area; only for the Bucky keeper just to get ‘enough on it’ to steer it wide of the right hand post. Full time 3 - 0

Fans Player of the Day (MOM) was a difficult choice following a great team effort (again) and both Kit and Alfie having outstanding games. By a short head and a wonderful pass at the end of the game to Skip, Alfie just shaved it.

On a windy day in Daventry, this local derby and first game for a month for the Blues, had the all the ingredients of a tough start to 2011. Woodford kicked off with the wind behind them and immediately put Vikings under pressure. Noah and Alfie both had chances to break the deadlock putting the Vikings’ defence and goalkeeper to the test. On the fourth minute, Fionntan met a clearance on the halfway line with a bullet half volley, which found it’s way through a crowded defence and under the goalie to break the deadlock. 1 -0. Contender for Goal of the Season..... Blues continued to pile the pressure on, pinning Vikings in their own half, while Jonny in goal had only the goalposts to keep him company. A clearance from Vikings, led to a quick throw in from Kit, to Alfie, who controlled the ball and shot from 15 yards out, giving the goalkeeper no chance.  8 mins. 2 – 0. The second half kicked off with the wind in Woodford’s faces and some testing runs and passes from Vikings. Great defending from Kit, Oscar, Fionntan and a couple of saves from Alfie (now in goal) kept Woodford’s clean sheet. Woodford got used to the impact of the wind and began to wind up the pressure with some surging runs from Skip and Molly, it was only a matter of time before a superb through ball from Skip carved open the Vikings defence, setting up Noah to score a well taken third goal. 3 – 0. 20 mins. The Vikings keeper, kept them in the game with some excellent saves from Kit, Jonny, Skip and Molly who continued to surge forwards. Final score 3 – 0. A superb performance and local bragging rights to Woodford! Credit has to go to Kit, Oscar and Fionntan for some excellent defending and passing, giving Vikings little chance to test the Woodford goal. Player of the Day (MOM) Noah, had an excellent game, surging forwards, causing all sorts of problems for the Vikings defence, he was unlucky not to score more goals.

On a chilly December day, Woodford were slow to thaw out of the ice blocks against Welford; who were playing with only three outfield players. Set up to defend the game, Alfie, Kit and Molly found it difficult to break down the Welford defence, although a couple of surging runs from Kit ended in shots going close and one excellent save from the goalkeeper. The breakthrough finally came on eight minutes, from an intercepted goal kick. Alfie was alert to a short ball, racing like a whippet to beat the defender, he struck the ball clean past the keeper. This lifted Woodford’s game forcing some excellent saves from the Welford keeper. On 14 minutes a superb through ball from Jonny carved open Welford, Alfie controlled the ball and struck low past the keeper. Half time 2-0

Welford came out faster than Woodford in the second half; only sterling defending from Fionntan and Oscar  and a couple of great saves from Jonny retained Woodford’s advantage. However, the pressure finally told with Welford bursting into the penalty area, a brave challenge from Jonny resulted in a penalty to Welford.  The spot kick was duly converted. 2-1. Woodford responded well, with Kit, Molly, Oscar and Alfie camped in the Welford half, a number of excellent saves from the Welford keeper kept the game alive. Finally on 29 minutes Oscar met a rebounded ball superbly chipping the keeper to make it 3-1.

With the last kick of the game, while Woodford were still celebrating, Welford broke from the kick off making it 3-2 final score. Credit has to go to Welford for some superb defending and goal keeping, playing the entire game with four players. Player of the Day (MOM) Oscar, had an excellent game, making some crucial tackles, driving forwards in possession and finally being rewarded with the goal he has deserved all season.

On a misty, damp day that was more akin to the ‘Hound of the Baskervilles,’ Woodford were expecting a tough return game against West Haddon Superstars.

From the kick off West Haddon dominated early possession, putting the Woodford defence and goal under continued pressure. On five minutes, they were rewarded with a well taken goal. Woodford responded and lifted their game testing the West Haddon defence; on the break West Haddon  pressed for a second goal and were only thwarted by some excellent defending from Fionntan and a fine save from Johnny. Skip, Kit and Molly continued to press forwards on the break but were unable to break down a strong West Haddon defence. Half time 0 -1

The second half continued in similar vein to the first, with substitutes Noah and Alfie threatening the West Haddon goal on the break and Oscar standing firm in defence. Woodford were rewarded on 20 minutes, following a great pass from Jonny, a surging run from Alfie, he found the back of the net with a well taken goal. 1-1. The game played out the remaining ten minutes in the midfield with tackles flying in and few chances; West Haddon hit the post and shots went close from Kit and Alfie.  On a typically Autumnal, miserable, cold, damp day in November, the game ended 1-1, a fair result. Player of the Day (MOM) Jonny, had an excellent game, making a crucial save in the first half and in the second playing like a terrier, not giving an inch of pitch to the opposition, he deserved his reward.

The first few minutes of the game were end to end with both sides having chances and both goalkeepers being tested, Jonny made a couple of excellent saves to keep it 0-0.
With Woodford surging forwards on the break, Kit broke the deadlock on 5 minutes with a well taken goal. Woodford continued to press forward, with Noah, Alfie and Kit having further chances to extend Woodford’s lead; a second goal was inevitable. It came with an excellent break from Woodford’s defence, a threaded pass through the Buckby players from Kit, finished with a fine shot from Alfie , 2 -0. From the kick off Long Buckby pushed forwards with the Oscar and Fionntan standing up well; the ball broke forwards and a great shot from Noah resulted in a corner. Kit whipped the corner into the box and Molly finished well to make it 3-0 at half time. The second half was completely dominated by Woodford, with superb movement and passing from Noah, Molly, Kit and Jonny, Woodford were only stopped from scoring a hat full of goals by some excellent defending and goalkeeping from Long Buckby. On the break Buckby remained a threat but outstanding defending from Oscar and Fionntan meant that Alfie spent the whole second half with only the goalposts to keep him company. He did not have to touch the ball once. On 20 minutes Woodford’s and in particular Noah’s efforts were rewarded with a fourth and well taken goal. Final score 4 – 0 All round a great first few weeks for Woodford Blues with 28 goals coming from all over the team and only 8 against, with superb performances in defence from Oscar, Skip and Fionntan, every player should be proud of themselves.Player of the Day (MOM) Kit Moysen, had an outstanding game dominating the midfield, having a part in all four goals he thoroughly deserved his reward.

The first half was a tight affair with both teams battling hard to create space. Jonny made a couple of excellent saves pouncing on the ball like a tiger time after time, as Brixworth pushed forwards testing the Woodford defence.  Towards the end of the first half Woodford stepped up their game breaking well and testing the Brixworth defenders.  The first goal came from a great forward move with Alfie and Noah; the ball span into the area and a Brixworth defender passed the ball into his own net. Within a minute, Noah broke free again, charging towards goal with the ball; a tackle from behind led to a penalty being awarded. Unfortunately, Noah went off injured but Alfie stepped up and scored with a powerful spot kick. 2 0 - half time. The second half continued as the first half had finished with both teams playing well but missing a number of chances. Molly, Oscar and Jonny battled for every ball with Kit and Alfie, continuing to surge forwards with Jonny. Skip was forced to make a couple of excellent saves but eventually the Brixworth pressure told, with the ball spinning off a Woodford player to make it 2 - 1.With five minutes to go Woodford broke and Alfie sprinted towards the Brixworth goalkeeper. The resulting collision was a brave save but Alfie was carried off  injured.  Woodford were now a player short and had to fight to keep possession of the ball. They played with huge heart but with seconds to go Brixworth scored an equaliser which was received by the local crowd as if they had won the FA Cup.  The game ended 2 - 2 but Brixworth and their fans knew they had been in a game.  A fantastic effort all round.Player of the Day (MOM) Jonny, was outstanding in goal in the first half and came out in the second half defending and attacking with real passion.

Kingsthorpe visited Woodford with both teams having excellent records and having conceded few goals, so far this season; it was likely to be a close game. The first half was end to end with both teams passing the ball well and battling in defence.  Skip made a number of saves, with Kit and Alfie testing the Kingsthorpe goalkeeper. At half time the game was finely balanced. The second half continued as the first half had finished, with both defences being put under pressure. After some excellent defending from Oscar, Fionntan and Molly Kingsthorpe took a corner quickly, which resulted in a freak goal, bouncing in off the Woodford keeper.  Woodford’s heads didn’t go down and they immediately lifted their game, pushing tirelessly forwards, putting the Kingsthorpe midfield and defence under immense pressure. Tackles flew in from Kingsthorpe  with Jonny, Noah, Kit and Alfie on the end of them; despite a few injuries they got up and battled on, never giving up. The game appeared to be swinging towards Woodford with a series of four excellent corners from Kit; however, credit has to go to Kingsthorpe’s defence who were outstanding, making tackle after tackle withstanding a prolonged period of Woodford pressure. Although camped in the Kingsthorpe half Woodford eventually ran out of, losing a superb game of football 1-0.  The players on both teams left the pitch exhausted. A great result for Kingsthorpe who played without any subs. Player of the Day (MOM) Molly, played the whole game in midfield, making tackle after tackle, with some surging runs and passes she had an outstanding game.

Second away game of the season saw Woodford put in a battling performance in a closely matched game. Grange Park put Woodford under pressure from the start of the game, scoring an early goal they led 1 0 for the first 10 minutes. An end to end first half saw chances for both teams. Excellent defending from Oscar and Fionntan kept Grange Park at bay, never losing heart Woodford didn’t give up. With 5 minutes to go Alfie came on and immediately linked up with Kit and Noah. Following two superb passing moves, Woodford where suddenly 2 1 up and putting the Grange Park’s defence to the test. Noah increased the lead but with almost the last kick of the first half Grange Park scored a second to make it 3 2 at half time. The second half continued as the first half had finished with both defences being put under pressure.  Woodford extended their lead with a great opportunist chipped goal from Noah, followed by Alfie completing his hatrick.  Grange Park continued to surge forward testing Molly, Skip and Oscar in defence and midfield. A third goal from Grange Park and then a penalty given against Woodford looked like fortunes could be changing.  However, an outstanding penalty save from Jonny (drawing the biggest cheer of the day from the crowd) meant Woodford regained the momentum and eventually ran out 5-3 winners, in what was a close and well matched game.
That’s now 22 goals for and 5 against in ‘Blues’ first 4 competitive games, an outstanding effort from everyone. Man of the Match, Alfie changed the game when he came on, driving Woodford forwards. Great passing and movement with Kit and Noah, over the last few games meant it was only a matter of time before he was rewarded with a well deserved hatrick.

The second home game of the season saw Woodford completely dominate the game with some superb passing and movement. Off to a flying start with three goals in four minutes from Kit, Parkland were left shell shocked with Woodford leading 3-0 after 6 minutes. By half time Woodford were winning 5-0 with two further close range goals from Skip and Molly.
At half time Parkland’s made a number of changes and came out competing for the ball and pressurising the Woodford defence. Tireless defending from Fionntan, Alfie and Oscar meant that Skip the second half goalie did not touch the ball.  On the break Noah scored his first goal following some excellent passing from Alfie, Kit and Jonny  The Parklands keeper made a number of outstanding saves and on another day Noah could have scored four or five goals. Late in the game Woodford completed their dominance with two further goals from Noah and Molly. Without doubt Woodford Blues best performance of the season so far.
Man of the Match, Fionntan, supported by Oscar defended exceptionally well, always first to the ball and sticking to the Parklands players like glue, meant the Woodford goal was rarely threatened.

Woodford did not give up and were rewarded with a goal by Alfie following some great passing.  With 5 minutes to go; Woodford continued to press forward and could have scored another goal but they unfortunately ran out of time.Man of the Match, Noah changed the game in Woodford’s favour when he came on and was very unlucky not to score.

This was a highly entertaining game and a credit to both sides. Woodford took control of the start of the game and Sam put them in front. A second goal looked good enough for Woodford to push on and win, but just before half-time Buckby scored a good opportunist goal. Buckby then started the second half stronger and scored a deserved equaliser. The final ten minutes were end to end and either side could have won, so a draw was a fair result.

This game was a great advertisement for U11 football, thanks to Brixworth’s never say die attitude. Woodford went 3-0 up in the first half but a late goal from Brixworth meant they were back in the game. Woodford then went 5-1 and 6-2 up before Brixworth again fought back to 6-5, only for a late goal to seal victory for the home team.

Woodford ran out comfortable winners; although Wootton played half the game with just 10men. Goals went in on a regular basis, and the Woodford crowd were very pleased to Jack score a hat-trick, playing his first game as a striker.

A game dominated by defences was won when Grange reacted best to an edge of box clearance and fired home. Both sides had good chances prior to this but excellent keeping and defending kept each attack out. In the end, Grange deserved their win and Woodford can now concentrate on the league.

Woodford won this top of the table match but Eagles will feel they could and should have won the match. Eagles were on top throughout the match but Woodford’s pacy breaks meant they always had a threat and they took the lead before Eagles equalised with the last kick of the half. This was after Harry Bo had saved a penalty. Woodford went back in front only for Eagles to come back again and then Nathan got the winner, heading home a corner.

Woodford recorded a stunning victory against Obelisk who previously had a 100% record. Obelisk started strongly with Hulka having some strong runs. The Woodford defence soon got to grips with him and then struck twice on the break. Woodford then started playing well and by half-time were 6-0 in front. Obelisk started the second half well but couldn’t breakthrough and once Woodford scored again the game opened up. Credit to Obelisk for keeping going and getting a consolation goal.

Woodford started strongly scoring five goals in the first ten minutes and from a competitive point of view the game was over. However, Parklands dug in well and at half-time the score had increased to eight nil. For the first ten minutes of the second half, Parklands started to get into the game, but when Woodford scored another goal, the floodgates opened and the hosts ran out comfortable victors.

The first half was a tight affair until a cross from Tom Rogers was deflected in by a Crick defender. Jack & Jordan both added to his goal before half time. In the second half the game opened up and both sides created chances, but it was Woodford’s superior finishing that made the difference, with Harry Stowe and Hugo both scoring twice and Tom adding another.

Woodford United won this early season top of the table clash, but the game was closer than the score line suggests. Aaron Winfield put the Reds in front and Falcons equalised from a corner. Woodford then applied good pressure and took a 4-1 advantage at half time. The second half was more even with both sides scoring some good goals. Harry Byron had a superb game at left-back.

Woodford United started their campaign with a fine win at Eastern Eagles. After a fairly even start, Harry Stowe put the Reds in front and Aaron Winfield added to this just before half time. The second half saw more pressure on the Eagles goal and eventually Harry Stowe completed his hat trick and further goals were added by Tom Rogers and Jordan Cox. Man of the match Hugo Sleem held the Woodford defensive line together and they were able to celebrate a clean sheet

-   The Woodford United Academy -

The Woodford United Academy was formed in 2007 and entered the Midland Junior Premier League (MJPL) at U15 level.

Over the years there have been many changes to the players that make up the team, with only 2 players surviving from day 1.....the manager's son, Alexander Roberts and Scott Baxter.

The focus of the team is not on results but on player development and as such a number of players have had trials at professional clubs and/or have been deemed good enough to play for both the Woodford Reserves and even for the 1st Team -   More Info
